Why write about the culture of a Baltic people?
My love for the Lithuanian language and culture unexpectedly began almost 10 years ago and has never stopped growing. It all started when I discovered a masterpiece of Lithuanian independent cinema: The Summer of Sangaile (original title: Sangailės vasara) by Alantė Kavaitė. After watching the film, some viewers bought a polka-dot dress. As for me, I loved this film so much that I’ve got involved into learning the Lithuanian language!
By learning Lithuanian, I discovered a very melodious language and an absolute treasure: it is said to be the closest living language to the only ancestor of today’s Indo-European languages.
By immersing myself in the history of twentieth-century Lithuania, I discovered a people of incredible courage.
By getting to know Lithuanians of different generations, I discovered some of the most deeply human people I’ve ever met in my life. They undoubtedly have an extra soul inherited from their elders.
In my professional life, I’ve been working as an executive assistant for 8 years. My dearest wish is to do what I’m made to do: work in the professional circle that promotes Lithuania as a destination for tourism and business, the country’s cultural heritage and contributes to the development of Lithuanian companies.
I often wondered why this country is still unfairly little known in France, while it has become a great source of inspiration for me. So I decided to write about Lithuania. Thank you for being curious and open-minded, two of the finest human qualities.
